María Paula Rubiano is an assistant editor for Environmental Health News and The Daily Climate.

María is a freelance science and environmental journalist, and her work on biodiversity, environmental justice, food, and climate change has appeared in Grist, Science, Audubon, BBC Future, and Atlas Obscura, among others.

She began her career as a science journalist in 2016, when she joined the science desk of El Espectador, one of the most respected newspapers in her native Colombia as reporter for Blog El Río, the only platform exclusively dedicated to covering water ecosystems in Colombia.

In 2020, partially funded by New York University’s World Journalist fellowship, she graduated from the master’s program in Science, Environmental and Health Reporting. She is also a former TON/BWF early career fellow, a former environmental justice fellow at Grist, and is currently part of The Open Notebook’s board of directors.
