Ashley James graduated with a B.S. in Environmental Studies from the University of Richmond (‘18) and a MPH in Environmental Health From Emory University (‘21). Since she was very young, Ashley loved writing and has published creative writing, academic papers, and opinion essays. She’s excited to combine her two loves as a reporting intern for EHN.In her free time, Ashley likes to sing, play guitar, and explore the outdoors. Grace van Deelen, reporting intern
Grace van Deelen, reporting intern
Grace was a reporting intern for EHN, where she covered plastic pollution, environmental justice, and mental health. She's also a graduate student in the science writing program at MIT, where she's been writing about the Line 5 oil pipeline, marine mammal genetics, and threats facing wild rice in Minnesota, among other topics.
Grace grew up in Wisconsin and spent her undergraduate years in the Boston area, studying biology and anthropology. After researching coffee plants in Costa Rica and honey bees in the Midwest, she realized she'd rather be writing about the environment than studying it, and she's excited to hone her skills at EHN

Huanjia Zhang
Huanjia is a reporting intern for EHN and a graduate journalism student at NYU's Science, Health and Environmental Reporting program. At EHN, Huanjia unearths stories on how the environment is impacting people from all walks of life. He covers issues from toxics to environmental justice and to food and agriculture inequalities.
Huanjia was born and raised in Yantai, a cozy city on China's northeast coast. Before becoming a journalist, Huanjia was a scientist, researching the human microbiome at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Trading his pipettes for pens, Huanjia hopes to make the world a cleaner, safer, and more just place with his reporting.

Elizabeth Gribkoff, reporting intern
Elizabeth is a reporting intern at EHN, where she will cover toxics and environmental justice issues. She is also a Master's student at MIT's Graduate Program in Science Writing. While at MIT, Elizabeth investigated what makes people in rural Illinois support or oppose wind energy — and what that says about the fate of U.S. renewable energy projects more broadly.
Before coming to MIT, Elizabeth worked for two years as the energy and environment reporter at VTDigger, an investigative news site and Vermont's largest newsroom. In that role, she covered everything from drinking water contamination to unintended consequences of climate change policy. Elizabeth has also built trails in the Bay Area and researched bee pollination at blueberry farms. When not writing, she can be found backpacking, climbing, cooking, and cross-country skiing.

Krystal Vasquez, Health and Justice fellow
Krystal Vasquez is an environmental scientist turned science writer, who will be joining EHN as an environmental health and justice fellow. She hopes to write about air quality, climate change, and how the two disproportionately impacted overlooked marginalized groups. Previously, she was a fellow for EHN's Agents of Change program, where she wrote about the intersection of environmental justice and disability. Through her writing, she also fiercely advocates for the creation of more inclusive and accessible STEM environments.

Hannah Seo, reporting intern
Cameron Oglesby, reporting intern
Cameron is an reporting intern for EHN, hoping to write about the intersection between people, planet, place, and justice as it relates to health and climate sciences. She is a senior at Duke University studying Environmental Science and Policy and Policy Journalism and Media Studies. A longtime Ecologist, artist, and a Doris Duke Conservation Scholar, Cameron was an Editorial Intern and Reporter for Grist and a Climate and Culture Editorial Fellow for the Wilderness Society.
Outside of EHN, she is the President of Duke's Undergraduate Environmental Union, Director of Environmental Affairs and Policy for Duke Student Government, and an undergraduate representative for Duke's Board of Trustees Climate Change and Sustainability Task Force. She is an Editorial Assistant for Southerly Magazine, a nonprofit outlet covering environmental justice in the American South, and Graphics Editor and a podcaster on race and identity for the Duke Chronicle. She is also currently writing her first book: a series of narratives highlighting the inherent touchpoints between traditions, cultures, spirituality, and natural landscapes.

Quinn Alexander McVeigh, reporting intern
Residing in Tucson, Ariz., McVeigh looks to spend his time with EHN shedding light on some of the pressing issues facing the desert, but also wants to expand his knowledge on the environmental risks facing forest biodiversity, U.S. coastal communities and marginalized populations.
As a student in journalism and environmental studies at the University of Arizona, McVeigh has been able to practice many different forms of writing, from scientific to the classic grade-school MLA style, but none gets him more excited than news writing. After interning with multiple nonprofits as well as a Tucson news organization, McVeigh's interest in EHN goes beyond just the writing, as he also wants to expand his knowledge on the management of nonprofits. In his free time, McVeigh enjoys playing basketball, watching documentaries and spending time in the water during Arizona's 120 degree summers.
